Puppy and kitten vaccination schedules

Starting early gives young pets the best protection during their most vulnerable period. A typical puppy course runs as follows:

• 6 to 8 weeks: DHPPi first dose
• 10 to 12 weeks: DHPPi second dose plus Leptospirosis
• 14 to 16 weeks: DHPPi third dose plus Rabies plus Leptospirosis booster
• 12 to 16 months: first annual booster
• Annually thereafter: Rabies plus core boosters as scheduled

A typical kitten course:

• 8 to 9 weeks: FVRCP first dose
• 12 weeks: FVRCP second dose plus Rabies
• 16 weeks: FVRCP third dose
• 12 months: first annual booster
• Annually thereafter: Rabies plus FVRCP boosters

If your pet has missed vaccines or you are unsure of their history, our vet will assess their status and recommend a catch-up protocol.

Core vaccinations for dogs and cats

Core vaccines are recommended for every dog and cat regardless of lifestyle, because the diseases they prevent are widespread, serious, and in some cases transmissible to humans. In Dubai, Rabies vaccination is legally mandatory for all cats and dogs. Additional core vaccines for dogs include DHPPi (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza) and Leptospirosis. For cats, the core protocol covers Feline Herpesvirus, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia (FVRCP).

Non-core (lifestyle) vaccinations

Non-core vaccines are recommended based on your pet’s environment, lifestyle, and risk factors. Dogs that attend boarding facilities, dog parks, or training classes benefit from Bordetella (Kennel Cough) and Canine Influenza vaccines. Cats that spend time outdoors or in multi-cat households may benefit from Feline Leukaemia (FeLV) vaccination. Our vet will discuss your pet’s specific situation and recommend the right combination.

Our support does not stop at the vaccination itself. We guide you through the official documentation for both core and lifestyle vaccines, whether you need local UAE registration records, Dubai Municipality compliance paperwork, or internationally recognised health certificates for travel. How vaccines protect your pet

Vaccines work by training your pet’s immune system to recognise and fight specific pathogens. After vaccination, the immune system retains a memory of the threat, so if your pet is ever exposed to the real disease, the response is fast and effective. Puppy and kitten immunity fades after the maternal antibodies received from their mother wear off, which is why the early vaccination schedule is timed as it is. Annual boosters maintain this protection throughout adult life.

Safe and approved vaccines

All vaccines administered at Paw Sisters are certified and licensed by the relevant UAE veterinary health authorities. We use cold-chain maintained products from reputable manufacturers. Before any vaccine is given, our vet performs a brief health check to confirm your pet is well enough to receive it. A vaccine should never be administered to an unwell animal.

Vaccination records and certificates

Every vaccination at Paw Sisters is recorded in a printed certificate. These records are required for pet travel, boarding facilities, veterinary club registration, and import compliance in many countries. We keep digital records on file and can re-issue certificates if yours is lost. If you are planning international travel with your pet, speak to us well in advance, as some countries require titre testing and waiting periods that need to be planned months ahead.

How the vaccination visit works

We conduct every vaccination visit in a calm, clean environment designed to minimise stress for your pet. Our team is experienced in handling anxious animals gently, and we take the time to let your pet settle before beginning the examination. You are welcome to stay with your pet throughout the appointment.

• Consultation and scheduling: we take a brief history covering your pet’s age, breed, previous vaccine records, current medications, known health conditions, and daily lifestyle, so the protocol we recommend suits your individual pet rather than a generic schedule
• Health check and vaccination: our vet examines temperature, lymph nodes, and overall condition to confirm your pet is fit to receive the vaccine that day. If your pet is unwell, we reschedule so the vaccine takes effect properly
• Documentation and follow-up: all vaccinations are recorded in a printed certificate issued at your appointment, and we schedule your next booster before you leave so you never lose track of your pet’s vaccination status

We believe preventive care should be straightforward.
